INFORMATION FOR PRIMARY PARENTS

On this page you'll find information that applies to Primary pupils only. This includes information about school reports, any presentations that we make for parents, and advice on how to support your child in the Anglophone Section.

Welcome to the Anglophone Section Primary!

We are very pleased to welcome all parents and pupils to the Anglophone Section at the CSI Lyon.

Please click here to read a welcome letter from the Head of Primary, Eve Bellanca, which provides information about the school and some advice for the best way to support your child, particularly in respect of developing their English reading, writing and speaking skills. â€‹â€‹â€‹

Below you can access the presentation made to primary parents on 1 October 2024. Here you will find lots of information about the Primary school, the curriculum, reporting and events throughout the year as well as advice on the best ways to support your child's learning.

Supporting your child's learning

Primary pupils in the Anglophone Section spend 6 hours per week in their English class, compared to the 18 hours per week that they spend in their French classes. This is the equivalent of only 1 day per week in English class.

At the same time, pupils will â€‹cover the full French curriculum in only 18 hours each week, instead of the standard 24 hours in other French schools. As a result, French teachers must maintain a strict rhythm to make sure everything is covered within the academic year.

Pupils are expected to make progress in both their languages. For families who do not speak English at home, it is crucial to ensure that students get as much exposure to English as possible outside of school hours. Many French families who have lived abroad enrol their children in the CSI,  and it's unfortunately common for English proficiency to decline rapidly as sometimes 6 hours a week is not enough to maintain a native-speaker level. Therefore, in some cases, we encourage parents to seek out tutors early on to prevent this from happening. It's important to be aware that a native-speaker level of English is required for students to continue their studies at the CSI.

School Reports from the Anglophone Section

Parents will receive school reports from the Anglophone Section primary teachers twice a year, in January and July.

The reporting formats for the different year groups are shared below, so that parents can see the criteria being taken into account when considering a child's progress.

While there are no scheduled parents evenings in Primary, parents are welcome to contact their child's teachers at any point in the year if they wish to discuss any aspect of their child's academic situation. Both French and English teachers will be present at these meetings. Equally, teachers may also request a meeting with parents.
