UNIVERSITY GUIDANCE SERVICE
Our University Guidance Service helps students to explore different career paths, to understand the requirements of various programs of study, and to provide support and assistance throughout the application process. From Grade 9 / Year 10 (3ème) to Grade 12 / Year 13 (Terminale), we aim to support students and their families at every stage.
In addition to the general information presented on this page, students should also check out our University Guidance Resources (currently in preparation) page, where you'll find detailed information on application processes, presentations made to different year groups, deadlines & key dates and much more.
Which countries can you help me apply to? How many applications should I make?
The University Guidance Service can support students applying to:
-
United States, via Common App
-
United Kingdom, via UCAS
-
Netherlands
-
Canada
-
Ireland
-
Other countries in Europe
Beyond this, we can provide support in terms of general advice and by providing any documents that might be required for applications to universities in Asia, Australasia and beyond.
To ensure that students make good quality applications which can be belanced with the heavy workload during their Terminale years, we support students to make a maximum number of applications outside France as follows:
-
One application to either the US (Common App) OR the UK (UCAS)
-
Plus 2-3 of the following: Netherlands, Canada, Ireland and other European countries.
Ms. Ruth McKain is the University Guidance Counsellor for the Anglophone Section.
Students and parents can contact Ms McKain at any time to request guidance and to make a rdv. At certain times of year, specific year groups may need to be prioritised but generally individual rdv can be made at any time.

What should I be doing in 3ème / 2nde / 1ère / Terminale?
UNIFROG is a powerful research and organisational tool, a ‘one-stop-shop’ where students can research university courses taught in English across the world.
UNIFROG accounts are made available to students (and their parents) from 3eme upwards. Initial access details are sent by email to all student, using their school @csilyon.fr email address. They can then log onto the UNIFROG platform and create their own account, which they will keep until the end of their time at the CSI Lyon.
Students are able to:
-
Explore future career options
-
Research university courses taught in English across the world
-
Find out about the application process for the different courses that they are interested in
-
Manage their university applications by tracking their progress, collating and storing important documents
-
Access a range of live webinars and other events delivered by subject experts and universities.
University Guidance Presentations: Information for students & parents
Each year the University Guidance team organise information sessions where advice and guidance is given to students in different year groups to help them research different courses and institutions. Presentations are made by the University Guidance counsellor, which focus on different geographical locations and provide specific advice for each area as well as specific guidance for individual year groups.
Post-bac studies in France
Advice is available from the conseillère d'orientation for collège and lycée at the CSI Lyon (Mme Khalouche, by appointment. To make an appointment students should contact the vie scolaire for collège / lycée). Students can also approach French subject teachers and their professeur(e) principal(e) for advice.
Various events are organised each year at the CSI Lyon including the INTERSEC Careers Fair for 2nde students, where parent-volunteers make presentations about different career options. There are also the Journées de l’Enseignement supérieur and the Semaine de l’orientation, which are usually held early in the year before Parcoursup (French government platform for applying to higher education in France) opens. The CSI also organises preparation for students aiming to apply to Sciences Po.
Please note that while the UNIFROG platform will provide information on courses taught in France, in English, it doesn't cover French taught courses at French institutions.
