ANGLOPHONE SECTION COMMUNITY

The Anglophone Section Community is a huge part of what makes the Section a success - for parents, students, teachers and other staff members alike. An active community life is part of what makes the Section feel welcoming, supporting and genuinely enjoyable for students and families. From informal meet-ups to bigger school events, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved, meet other families, and feel part of something. New parents quickly find support, students benefit from a positive and connected environment, and the whole Section gains a warm, lively atmosphere. It’s this sense of fun, openness, and shared experience that helps the Anglophone Section thrive.

The Anglophone Section Volunteer Committee organises a range of fun events throughout the year, giving our community lots of opportunities to meet, develop new friendships and support each other

Welcoming new families to the Anglophone Section!

Each year many new families join the Section. While most children enter the school at primary and the start of collège, we also welcome classe d'accueil  students in seconde. Our families are hugely varied in terms of language, nationality and level of familiarity with life in France. Whatever their situation, the Anglophone Section aims to welcome them into our community and to help them adjust quickly to life in the CSI Lyon.

New families are encouraged to join the CSI Anglophone Section Parents Facebook Group, where they can ask questions and check information about life in the Section. What's App Groups have also been created for each Anglophone Section class and year group, and are organised directly by parents, for parents.

Each year a Back to School Picnic is organised to bring all families - new and old - together at the start of the school year. It's a fun event, with a shared potluck lunch and games organised for children and parents. We also host a Welcome Coffee Morning at school for parents to meet informally.

Supporting the Community: volunteers welcome!

We aim to support all the families that join us during their time in Lyon. To do this we rely on the enthusiasm, energy and time given by our volunteers. Getting involved in the Section is a great way to strengthen our community and to show our children that we take an interest in their education.

Below are some of the ways that Anglophone Section parents can get involved in supporting our school community:

  • Help to organise events for parents to meet - or host one yourself! Throughout the school year we aim to organise a range of social events including coffee mornings, cheese and wine evenings and potluck lunches.

  • Help organise or run the Anglophone Section's participation in one of the school events that are held through the year. These include the Halloween Party, the Kermesse (Primary School Fair), the International Book Fair and the Christmas Market.

  • Volunteer to join the parent-librarian rota for primary or secondary libraries.
