Attending the SRT Fairs In-House Counsellors Conference in Valencia offered a unique opportunity to explore the evolving university landscape across Europe and beyond.

SRT Fairs is the company that organises our annual University Fair at CSI Lyon each November, and they generously offered to host our own Guidance Counsellor at this event, which combined professional opportunities for growth and networking, with warm hospitality and the vibrant local culture of Valencia.

Exploring the University Landscape Across Europe

One of the most valuable aspects of the conference was the chance to meet representatives from a wide range of universities. These conversations revealed some of the important trends shaping higher education today:

  • Diverse Program Offerings: Universities are expanding interdisciplinary programs that combine technology, humanities, and business to meet changing job market demands. The possible impacts of AI were discussed

  • International Experiences and Internships: Many institutions emphasised partnerships that allow students to study abroad or to take a year out to work in industry. 'Employability' is an increasingly key aspect of university studies, with students (and parents!) focusing on the next step of a rewarding career path.

  • English-taught courses: Universities across Europe and beyond are investing heavily in the development of courses that are taught either partially or entirely in English, reflecting the increasing importance of English to employers across the world.

Understanding these developments helps our Guidance Counsellor provide students with up-to-date information on study options that align with their interests, career goals and resources at their disposal.

Networking and Building Connections

The conference was not just about gathering information but also about building relationships. Networking with university representatives and fellow counsellors created a supportive community that's strongly focused on student success.

The warm hospitality of the hosts and the lively atmosphere of Valencia added a memorable dimension to the event. Despite the high temperatures, the energy remained positive and engaging throughout the three days.

Final Thoughts

The SRT Fairs In-House Counsellors Conference in Valencia was a valuable experience that deepened understanding of the university landscape and strengthened professional networks. The knowledge gained will be put to good use as we guide students toward educational opportunities that fit their goals and aspirations. As the world of higher education continues to evolve, staying connected and informed remains essential for providing the best support to students and their families.
