INFORMATION FOR NEW FAMILIES

Starting at a new school can be a daunting prospect - especially if you are also moving to a new city or country. Language barriers, cultural contrasts, making new friends and building a social network from scratch can bring challenges during this exciting time for you and your family. The information in this section has been put together to help new families settle into life in the Anglophone Section and at the CSI Lyon.

Our Section prides itself on being welcoming to and supportive of families that are new to the school and to Lyon: we want to do everything we can to help you hit the ground running at school as you start this exciting phase in your family's life.

If you have any questions that are not answered below, or if you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact the Anglophone Section on admin@csianglo.org.

A big welcome to all new families joining the Anglophone Section!

To help new families settle in Lyon, APESA has put in place practical support and opportunities to connect with the school community. These include:

  • The APESA Social Committee, which aims to organise informal social events throughout the school year. These include coffee mornings, book sales, potluck suppers, picnics and other events. The Social Committee is organised by parent-volunteers, and we are always looking for new parents to join us!

  • The CSI Anglophone Section Parents Facebook Group: this provides an informal contact point for APESA parents. You can make a request to join the group here.

  • The Anglophone Section website, which is kept up-to-date with information about the CSI and the Section.

  • Regular email communications to provide important information (in English) for all families

If you want to find out more being part of the Anglophone Section community, please contact the APESA President on apesa.president@gmail.com.

Meeting new families at the rentrée

At the start of each year, during the first week of school (rentrée), meetings are organised where the APESA President and the Head of Section welcome new families to the Section. Presentations are made and made available on the website for future reference. The Head of Section, with class teachers and other staff, also makes presentations to the students and parents of each year group in collège and lycée. A meeting for new families in Primary is also organised at the rentrée.

The Cité Scolaire International Lyon

The CSI Lyon is a French state school and has the same administrative and pedagogical set-up as other schools in France. In essence, the administration of the CSI Lyon is responsible for a wide range of functions, including the provision of pastoral care, discipline, monitoring absences, organising the school cantine, school transport, communications, the safety of the school building etc.

For families that are new to the French educational system and the daily functioning of a French school, the Anglophone Section has put together an English-language booklet Daily Life at the CSI Lyon that provides information on these, and many other, topics.
