Edition 4 - June 2022
NEWSBITE
THE NEWSLETTER OF THE ANGLOPHONE SECTION AT CSI LYON
Welcome to the summer edition of Newsbite!
This is the final edition of the Newsbite for this school year - and what a year it has been! With the lifting of Covid restrictions, we have been able to return to 'normality' in many ways, and we are truly appreciative of this. Classes and exams have carried on with minimal disruption, our libraries have been open and we have welcomed the return of volunteers and families to the school at events like the primary Kermesse.

It's time to say good bye to some members of staff and families, as they move on to new lives in different places. We wish you all bon voyage, and all the very best for your future plans.

For those who are staying with the Section, we are looking forward to a new and exciting year ahead, with many changes - and some challenges, no doubt - on the horizon. As a community, we will work together to ensure that the Section continues to thrive.

Message from the Head of Section
This year marks the end of Mr Miller's time at the CSI Lyon, after 28 years as a teacher and Head of the Anglophone Section. Mr Miller will be remembered in the Section as a generous, patient, thoughtful and knowledgeable teacher and colleague. In his farewell letter, he shares his hopes for the future of the Section and the exciting times ahead.
Trips & Activities: what's been happening outside the classrooms?
Twenty-two of our 2nde students, accompanied by Ms Kincade and Mr Gilroy, travelled to Paris for the Drama Option Trip. Read on to find out more about the trip, and other activities and events that have been taking place beyond the classroom, including an update from ILYMUN 2023 and a round-up of this year's fundraising success for the Green & Humanitarian Club.
Volunteer Committee successfully bringing the Anglophone Section community back together
The new Volunteer Committee have gone from strength to strength over the last couple of months. The 'Welcome Back' Coffee Morning & Book Sale at school was very well-attended, and is a welcome return to 'normal' socialising. A team of volunteers, led by Audrey Davidenkoff and Polina Kuklova, organised and ran a brilliant Anglophone Section stall at the primary kermesse. To top it all off, all the parents and staff of the Anglophone Section were invited to celebrate the end of the school year with lovely soirée at the Novotel in Gerland on the 23rd June.

The Volunteer Committee is made up of Anglophone Section parents, giving generously of their time and energy to revitalise the community spirit that underpins our thriving Section. If you want to join the committee and / or get involved in planning events for the community, you can contact them on volunteering@csianglo.org for more information. Read on to find out more about the events and what's planned for la rentrée 2022!

News from the Classrooms
The annual Language Week took place this term for primary pupils. The programme included workshops with 'expert' parent-volunteers talking to the children about their jobs and interests, a Sports Day and a trip to the Peaugres Safari Park!
In collège, classes have continued as normal right up to the end of lessons on 24th June: a welcome return to 'normal' for both students and teachers. Read on to find out more about the work students have been doing.
Summer Reading Lists: helping you to keep those reading muscles in good shape!
We hope that you all have exciting plans for the summer holidays - and that you are able to build at least a little reading time into your schedule! The LL and primary teachers have put together a great selection of age-appropriate titles which will have you laughing / crying / shrieking / thinking / learning / feeling inspired all summer long.
Remember (if you're in primary or collège), you don't have to choose from the lists: just read something - anything! - that you enjoy.

And yes - comics and audio books count too!
