Welcome to the spring edition of Newsbite!
Spring has sprung in Lyon - a welcome change after a long, cold winter. In the Anglophone Section, we are enjoying the lifting of restrictions in school. The first Section class trip to Grotte Chauvet took place on 4th April, and was a great success. The new Volunteer Committee aims to relaunch the social and community life of the Section, starting with a coffee morning to be held on 6th May and a full calendar of fun events for families in the year ahead. Speaking of new beginnings, the Board is pleased to report that a future Head of Section has been selected for the next academic year, while we prepare to say goodbye to Mr Miller. The latest news from the Head of the Anglophone Section, as we bring this busy term to a close. Students and teachers are working hard towards the upcoming exams, supporting our students as they continue on their journeys.
Exciting news from the Board as we announce the appointment of the future Head of Section, celebrate the successful first Section trip since pre-Covid times and look forward to re-building community engagement in the year ahead - starting with a coffee morning on May 6th.
New Volunteer Committee aims to improve community engagement - and have some fun!
The Covid-19 pandemic restrictions have severely impacted the social side of life over the last two years, including that of the Anglophone Section community. Our new Volunteer Committee aims to change all that, with an exciting programme of events being proposed for the year ahead and plenty of opportunities for parent-volunteers to get involved - including at the upcoming primary kermesse (school fair) on Friday 17th June: read on to find out how you can help.
Plus: all parents are invited to our first Coffee Morning of the year! This will be held at the school on 6th March from 08h30 to 10h30. Read on to find out more.


News from the Classrooms
We've had a very egg-citing time in primary, waiting for our baby chicks to hatch! Plus reading, reading and more reading as we find out about explorers (and set off on our own expedition), think about animals in captivity and read some fairytales - with a twist!
In collège the current crisis in Ukraine and the huge movement of refugees provides a focus for our discussions about refugees, immigration and the movement of people. We also celebrated International Women's Day on 8th March.
Library News: looking for more parent-volunteers to help in secondary
With the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions we have been very pleased to welcome our trusty parent-volunteers back to the secondary library - and now we are looking for more! Plus: find out about our new Anglophone Section secondary library Instagram account and how a 5ème student was inspired to reach out to the author of a favourite book - with surprising results! In primary our student-recommended books are going down a storm with readers. Read on to find out more about our busy libraries and how you can get involved.

6ème / 5ème Trip to Grotte Chauvet 2
Excitement levels among the 6ème and 5eme students peaked early on the morning of Monday 4th April as they set off on the first Anglophone Section school trip since February 2020! Also, preparations for the 2nde Drama Option trip to Paris are well-advanced: read on to find out more about the exciting programme that has been put in place.
